Mid-Length Hair: Hairstyling Tips for The Recently Chopped

This past Saturday we were amazed at the amount of clients who came in with freshly chopped locks, most of them with hair somewhere between chin and shoulder length, and most of them frustrated by the unfamiliarity they felt with their new 'do.  I've been there, done that and guess what?  Mid-length hair is so much fun!  So if you or someone you love is in the midst of troubles with their newly trimmed tresses, let that tension go and become inspired as you read below!

VOLUMISTA!
Here we have the gorgeous Margot Robbie sporting her shoulder length hair with mega volume, casual movement and a daringly deep part.

You too can pull this look off!
Here's how:
Use a volume enhancing product on towel-dried hair and first blow dry upside!  Right side up, blow dry with a paddle brush in the opposite direction of your part so that maximum lift is created.
Use dry shampoo at the root to get even more lift!
Spritz a bit of beach spray at the ends and scrunch hair to enhance any natural wave.

Your shopping list (all of which can be found at La Bichette!):
1. Oribe's Maximista Thickening Spray
2. Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray
3. Oribe's Apre Beach Wave & Shine Spray

ILLUSIONISTA!
Did you know if you add a slight bend to your sleek locks you'll give the illusion of longer hair?!  Yup, it's true!  The trick here is where to place that bend.  Just like Jaime King shows us here, you can use your hair as a way to gently contour your facial structure.

You too can pull this off!
Here's how:
Be sure to use an enriching serum on your towel-dried locks so that hair is silky smooth.
Blowout hair to ultimate sleekness.
Use a curling wand with medium size barrell to go through and achieve your bend.  Hold hair on the wand for no more than 3 seconds, gently pulling each section downward once you take it off the wand.  You're just looking for a glimmer of movement here!

Your shopping list (all of which can be found at La Bichette!):
1. La Bichette SOS Serum
2. Cortex 4 in 1 Curling Wand

TWISTED SISTA!
Just because you're locks are not as long doesn't mean updos are outlawed.  Updos with shorter hair are very doable, even for the less creative of us.  One of the easiest updos for those with chin to shoulder length hair is one of the twisted variety.  Twists tend to lock in hair of all lengths as opposed to updos that are anchored from a single rubber band.  I actually found the below tutorial on my newly found favorite site: thebeautydepartment.com

You too can pull this off!
Here's how:
If your hair is straight and sleek, give it some texture by adding a bit of quick curl or using a texturizing spray.
Take the left side of your hair and begin twisting it from the ear all the way to just past the middle of the back of your head.  Anchor with a large bobby pin.
Now take the right side of your hair and twist it up, incorporating the rest of your hair in the back so that this twist sits above the first one you created.  Any strays can be tucked or pinned.
Take your favorite accessory for  extra pizazz (and to hide any part you don't love)!  Give yourself a hand (and an overall spirtz of hairspray)!

Your shopping list:
1. Bobby Pins
2. Hair Spray
3. A Fun Hair Accessory!

So there you have it.  Just three of the many easy, fun and oh so glam hairstyles you can achieve with shorter locks!

XOXO

Keep Calm, Prom On: La Bichette's Prom 'Dos (and Don'ts)

For all of our prom goers, here are La Bichette's Top Prom Picks! . . .

If you're looking to flaunt your gorgeous locks in an all down 'do, we say go red carpet ready with a dramatic part, pulled over to one shoulder, the other side tucked behind your ear.  The beauty of this 'do is in the billowing curl that can be as structured as Blake Lively's or more casual a la Keri Russell.
Tip: Remember to use a "brushable hold" when it comes to hair spray.  This 'do becomes a don't when it looks rigid.

Next up, the chunky plait!  Kept over to the side, loosely braided and pinched apart for fullness, this 'do is boho bliss.
Tip: Use clip-in extensions to take this braid over the top!

Just as we've seen on the runway for Spring/Summer 2014, our prom Updo picks follow suit with a more casual, windswept look.  Something akin to this simple bun or even a deconstructed knot would do the trick.
Tip: Remember to keep your Updos loose without feeling sloppy and off of your head!

Last but not least (in fact this one is our favorite) add fresh cut flowers to any of these looks for a playfully romantic 'do.  You can cluster the flowers together, position dainty ones throughout or go big with one delicately stunning peony.
Tip: Hairspray your flowers to increase their longevity!

Yelper's Dilemma: La Bichette Receives Too Many Good Reviews

We've all heard the saying "too much of a good thing is bad for you".  Sure, sure... too much sugar is unhealthy, too many carrots and you turn orange, too much sleep and you feel lousy... but when it comes to too many good reviews, we tend to side with the Mae West: "Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!"  Well, Yelp disagrees.

We recently had an influx of outstanding Yelp reviews from our treasured clients; however, many of those kindhearted declarations were not approved by Yelp's automated software.  Apparently Yelp thinks I'm sitting boasting about our bombshell blowouts and mind blowing makeup applications under the aliases of our nearest and dearest.  Seeing as that is not the case and many of you have taken the time to put in writing just how stellar you think we are, we thought your posts nor your thoughtfulness should go unseen.

So brace yourself!  Below you will find some of the most sugary sweet reviews by our clients, some of whom (you know who you are) have become a cornerstone of La Bichette and more so, a part of our family.  Of course you can also find these on the Yelp page called "Not Recommended Reviews" but that kind of negativity just doesn't feel right when the reviews are downright awesome.

La Bichette RECOMMENDED Reviews!

From Lauren T.:

"I am a huge fan of blowouts and have been to every blowdry bar in Dallas, that being said, La Bichette is by far the best!  I have fallen in love with the staff, products and the owners and now come every single week!  They offer you complimentary champagne and give the best scalp massages around.

The owners are incredibly helpful and accomodating when it comes to scheduling an appointment time that works for you and they offer the option to scedule online.  The French inspiration is adorable and everyone is so sweet and professional, it's always such an enjoyable experience!    My hair is curly/ frizzy and the staff always listens to exactly what I want and make it look perfect!  The best part is, it lasts for days!

I honestly can't say enough good things about La Bichette, its simply a French-inspired gem that will leave you feeling/ looking like a million bucks(or francs)!"

From J.R.:

"If you are looking for a great blow out with 5 star service, this is the place for you!  I'm a weekly regular and have never left disappointed.  Once you experience the lovely La Bichette, you will be hooked too!"

From Rachael S.:

"LB is my go-to spot for all my business and social events, and sometimes just to spoil myself as well..Love getting my blowouts there. Consistent, always running on time. The stylist remember you too so you don't feel like a stranger. The owners do a marvelous job of keeping the place up to par, friendly, and accommodating. I highly recommend this spot. Priced very affordable as well."

From Rachel H:

"I have to admit that I am addicted to going to La Bichette and will never go anywhere else for blowouts and makeup!!! I have been going to La Bichette almost every week since it opened, and I cannot say more WONDERFUL things about it!! All of the artists are extremely talented, and the owners are a DREAM.  I've never had anything but amazing experiences there, and I suggest it to any girl looking for the BEST blowout in Dallas (or probably in Texas). The salon is always impeccably clean, and is decorated in a beautiful French theme, absolutely perfect for a special occasion, a bridal party or even just to treat yourself!!"

From Betty W.:

"Beautiful and fabulous salon. The most charming lovely precious owners greet you with a big smile, making you feel right at home immediately!  All the stylists are very experienced and "extra customer friendly" even with my "big Texas hair"! I would never go anywhere else!"

From S.B.:

"This is hands down the BEST blowout salon I have ever been to! It is like the glam palace of every girl's dreams! My hair and makeup looked amazing when I left (got my hair done on a Saturday and it still looked great on Monday) and the service was incredible. I was greeted with big smiles and a glass of champagne. This is the kind of place you go to and never want to leave.  You can tell that the owners and the entire staff really care about the happiness/satisfaction of the client, something that I think has been lost in other blowout salons like Drybar.

I can't wait to go back!!!! "

From Corey L:

"Okay this place rocks not only can you go in for a Make Over but these people are set up to come to you. If you have a special someone you are wanting to spoil for any occasion this is the place to call. They are very professional and Great at what they do. Thanks for making my special Lady feel Extra Special."

...

See what I mean?  Real people, real reviews... and we're REALLY grateful!
